What is an Otoplasty?

Otoplasty, also known as ear reshaping is a cosmetic ear surgery that fixes the appearance of ear abnormalities, such as what is commonly known as “bat ears” or “prominent ear” by reshaping and repositioning the ears. First, an incision is made, and a small section of skin in the back of the ear is removed, which exposes the cartilage for the surgeon to shape the ears according to the desire and the needs of the patient. With the help of sutures, the ear is moved closer to the head. Once the desired shape is achieved the incision is closed. Ear surgery usually takes only 1-2 hours, however, the duration of the surgery may vary depending on the complexity of the deformity, and the operation is performed under local anesthesia.

What to Expect After an Otoplasty?

More proportionate and symmetrical ears
More natural appearance
Improved self confidence
Results can be seen immediately
Results are permanent as the human ears will not change and grow after the age of 4
Scars are hidden behind ears
Return back to school or work after about 7 to 15 days

Suitability for an Otoplasty

You are an ideal candidate for an ear surgery if you;

Have abnormally large, protruding, or uneven ears (whether congenial or as a result of injury)
Have unusual folds in your ear
Feel unconscious about the size, position, and shape of your ears
Have educated yourself on the benefits and the risks of otoplasty
Have fully matured and stabilized cartilages (usually performed on patient older than 4 years old)

Aftercare

As the our health care team, we will ensure that you have gone through all the necessary health checkups before your surgery, and always be there for you during recovery to ensure you feel your best the whole time.

Aftercare is as important as the surgery itself when it comes to boosting the effects of the procedure.

Make sure you keep yourself propped up with multiple pillows while lying down or sleeping and do not sleep on ears as it might cause pain and possible infections.

Swelling is expected but it will start to go down after day 2 and 3, which are the most challenging. Ear surgery is a surgery with relatively painless recovery time. If necessary, your doctor may prescribe you painkillers.
