What is an Eyelid Surgery?

An eyelid surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyes. It helps get rid of the tired and droopy-looking eyelids and creates a rejuvenated face and a brighter expression by removing the excess skin on the eyelids.

Eyes are functional and cosmetic units of facial anatomy. Eyelid surgery might be the remedy for various concerns such as eye asymmetry, fatty deposits that cause puffiness, loose and saggy skin around the eyes, bags under the eyes, unnatural eye contours, which interfere with your vision that may have occurred due to aging, unhealthy habits, trauma, or medical conditions.

Upper eyelid surgery results generally last about 5-7 years while the changes done to the undereye area are typically permanent.

During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will analyze your facial anatomy to recommend the most suitable procedure depending on your concerns and surgical goals.

Suitability for Blepharoplasty

You are an ideal candidate for an eyelid surgery if you:

Want to change the shape of your eyes
Wish to have more space between your eyes and eyebrows for eye makeup
Show signs of aging around your eye region
Would like to fix droopy and saggy eye structure
Have excessive undereye bags
Want to look younger, more energized, and awake
Require tissue regeneration and repair
Have done your research on the procedure and the possible risks

Recovery After an Eyelid Surgery

Once you wake up from surgery, you might notice that your vision is blurry, but this is not a cause for concern and will wear off quickly. Eyelids heal relatively fast compared to other areas, and the scars are hidden well under the eyelashes or the creases of the eyelids. Patients who have upper lid surgery tend to go back to work after 7-10 days, while recovery for patients who have lower lid surgery will require more time, around 10-14 days.

During blepharoplasty, two different types of stitches are used. Dissolvable stitches need no removal, however, the other type of stitches will need to be removed after 7-10 days. Some patients might require more time for the removal, depending on the condition of the eyelids after the operation.

Aftercare

As the Our health care team, we will ensure that you have gone through all the necessary health checkups before your surgery, and always be there for you during recovery to ensure you feel your best the whole time.

Aftercare is as important as the surgery itself when it comes to boosting the effects of the procedure.

Quitting smoking and drinking during the healing process are recommended, as smoking and alcohol intake might slow down the healing and potentially affect the surgery results.

Make sure you keep yourself propped up with multiple pillows while lying down or sleeping.

Swelling is expected but it will start to go down after day 2 and 3, which are the most challenging. Just trust the process.

If necessary, your doctor may prescribe you painkillers and eye drops to keep eyes from getting dry and itchy.
