What is Scar Revision?
Scar revision is performed to improve the look of scars and aims to even out the skin texture and skin color with the surrounding skin. Scars can be hereditary, caused by surgery, or injury. Some scars can cause more distress than others as they may be more visible due to their size, shape, color, texture, or position.
Your surgeon will discuss with you the type of scar revision method suitable for you after assessing the degree and type of scarring during consultation. Multiple techniques might have to be used in combination for optimal results.
Suitability for Scar Revision Surgery
You are an ideal candidate for scar revision surgery if you:
Have scars you want to get rid of
Wish to improve your confidence
Are healthy and at your ideal weight
Have done your research on the procedure and the possible risks
Recovery
During the initial recovery phase, swelling, discoloration, and discomfort are normal and expected. The scar or scars will slowly fade and the skin texture will be refined. Keep in mind that the time it takes for the scars to heal depends on the degree and type of scarring that is being treated.
Aftercare
As the our health care team, we will ensure that you have gone through all the necessary health checkups before your surgery, and always be there for you during recovery to ensure you feel your best the whole time.
Aftercare is as important as the surgery itself when it comes to boosting the effects of the procedure.
Quitting smoking and drinking during the healing process are recommended, as smoking and alcohol intake might slow down the healing and potentially affect the surgery results.
Make sure you keep yourself propped up with multiple pillows while lying down or sleeping.
Swelling is expected but it will start to go down after days 2 and 3, which are the most challenging. Just trust the process.
If necessary, your doctor may prescribe you painkillers.
